Molarity Calculator

Solve M = n/V for molarity, amount of solute, or final solution volume, with mol/mmol and L/mL conversions.

Introductory chemistry

Enter your values

Use a decimal point or scientific notation (1e-3). Choose units before calculating.

Choose the unknown quantity. Its number field is hidden; its unit selector remains available for the result.
Enter a positive amount of dissolved solute, not its mass.
Use the total final volume of the solution, not the solvent volume alone.

Your result

Enter your values and press Calculate to see your answer and all five solution steps.

M = n / V; n = M × V; V = n / M

Common Mistakes

  • Do not divide by a volume in mL without converting it to L (or use a matching mmol/mL-style unit deliberately).
  • Use the final total solution volume, not the volume of solvent added before dissolution.
  • Molarity (mol/L) is not molality (mol/kg of solvent).

Assumptions and limitations

  • This calculator accepts only positive known quantities. Zero moles, zero molarity, and zero volume are rejected because the requested concentration relation is undefined or uninformative for this tool.
  • It calculates the direct definition M = n/V only; it does not determine moles from mass or a chemical formula.

M = n / V; n = M × V; V = n / M
