Mole Calculator

Find any one of mass, amount of substance, or molar mass from the other two.

Introductory chemistry

Enter your values

Use a decimal point or scientific notation (1e-3). Choose units before calculating.

Enter a positive mass for the sample.
Enter a positive molar mass in g/mol.

Your result

Enter your values and press Calculate to see your answer and all five solution steps.

m = nM; n = m/M; M = m/n

Common Mistakes

  • Do not enter mg while leaving the mass unit set to g; the result changes by a factor of 1000.
  • Do not divide by zero: each known mass, amount, and molar mass must be positive.
  • Use molar mass in g/mol, not an unlabelled molecular or formula mass in u (Da).

Assumptions and limitations

  • Supported scope: one pure substance with a known molar mass. The calculator does not parse chemical formulas or determine atomic weights.
  • Results are formatted to at most eight significant digits; report significant figures appropriate to the measurements.
  • Scientific notation and Arabic numerals are accepted. Inputs must be positive and within the shared finite numerical range.

m = nM; n = m/M; M = m/n
